A Horrible Topic - A Heartbreaking Book
Taking a co-worker's recommendation, I bought a copy of this book. Within the first twelve pages, tears started running down my cheeks. The book deals with the darker side of human beings and leaves me both heartbroken and enraged.

it filled in more of the details. was more of the actual story, albeit as he was little older, if my memory serves me..
Thed etails are even more graphic, but it is more optimistic as you see him coping..

Stacey: It was. Sometimes I find that it is good for me not always to read books on happy subjects.
I have read this book, and the contents are truly horrendous. However, recently the author has come under scrutiny and there is actually some debate as to whether or not the events took place. The main argument for this point is that a human being who would go through that would not emerge as normal and functional and this man has. Just thought you might want to know.

ASJ - There was an article in the July 28, 2002 New York Times called "Dysfunction for Dollars" that apparently challenges the veracity of Pelzer's memoirs, quoting among others Pelzer's own brother. I don't think the book has ever been unqualifiably disproven though. In general, when reading a memoir, I usually assume it is based in truth with some fictional or created memory embellishments thrown in.
