You quoted the Degel in your linked post: When guests are invited to a wedding, the purpose is to gladden the hearts of the bride and the groom. But there are always guests who care only for their own pleasure, and who pay no attention to the young couple.
Reb Shlomo Carlebach used to say [I'm paraphrasing here, not an exact quote]: "Those who go to wedding, and when they leave they say, 'Wasn't the food [or the music] great?' -- They really weren't at the wedding.
If they say, 'Wasn't it great to see all of our old friends?' -- They, too, weren't really at the wedding.
But if they say, 'Wasn't it wonderful that this Chasan and Kallah got together?' -- THEY were at the wedding!!!"
Very nice! Thanks for sharing that, Yitz.
I had this piece queued up and ready for ParshaParts! Our translations differ slightly as you will see at the end of the week.
Beautiful piece.
