Hmmm, they don't offer special discounts for blog hosts?
:-)
A gut yor! How was your Peysach?
Oho! 3500$ is a pretty sum. By the way, I wanted to make a chaburo for those who are interested in Slavita / Zhitomir sforim, however not it buying paper originals (this is too overboard), but getting scanned copies. There is a way to do it, for 1000 shkolim for each, and the best part - they are totally shareable, so you can get 10 people and it will be 100 shkolim from each.
If you are interested I'll write about it more.
chabakuk elisha - BTW: don't worry about the Tzoref, I've got the copy, but I'm looking for a way to scan it now.
ASJ: By the way.
In one of the discussions before it was mentioned that Rogatchover Goen refused a photographer to take his picture until the photographer convinced him, that it will be valuable for future generations.
Do you remember that we discussed it on your blog, or was it somewhere else? I thought it might be here of on Hirshel Tzig's blog. But I didn't find it. Someone there brought a source for this story. (I've heard it orally, and I didn't see it in a seyfer).
Now someone claims that really it happened with the Brisker Rov, and not with the Rogatchover. So I wanted to see the source.
Chabakuk Elisha: They certainly should!
A Yid: My Pesach was very nice, however the last days were a little difficult since my son got bacterial conjunctivitis in his left eye which caused it to ooze a green discharge.
As for Slavuta seforim, I recently spoke with a Skverer chassid who lives in New Square who specializes in collecting/selling these printings. He was amazed that anyone specialized in collecting Sudilkov seforim and said he would keep an eye open for them for me.
A Yid: I just took a look for the story about the Rogachover but could not find anything yet. I will let you know if I do...
The story is like this. Hebrew University archive has a big number of rare sforim. However to order scanning for personal needs there will cost an astronomical sum. (I already tried to find out).
However there is another option. They have a routine project of scanning all their sforim slowly (you probably know about it - http://www.jnul.huji.ac.il/dl/books/html/bk_all.htm
And they said it will take them 20 years aprx. to do it within current technologies. However if you pay them 1000 shkolim (they like money ;) they'll move any seyfer you want to the head of the list. Their catalog is available on-line: http://aleph500.huji.ac.il/F/?func=file&file_name=find-b&local_base=nnlall&con_lng=eng
You can take look at Sudilkov sforim there as well. (Use Loshn Koydesh for search). I was primarily interested in chasidic sidurim (like one published in Slavita), machzoyrim and other sforim, especially with Ivre-taych (Yiddish translation) published in Slavita and Zhitomir, because they use an alive Ukranian Yiddish, and they have correct grammar there, unlike many contemporary editions.
Thanks for the info! Perhaps one of these days you could contribute another guest posting on some of your research findings about minhagim in Ukraine. What do you think?
A Simple Jew: So if you are interested in such chaburo - you can join. I'll think about something to write.
Great. I will look forward to it :)

The story is brought near the begining of the book "The Zeide Reb Motele, The life of the tzaddik Reb Mordechai Dov of Hornosteipel"
By Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski (btw a great book). If I remember correctly it was Reb Meir Shapiro, of Daf Yomi fame, who convinced the Rogatchover to let his picture be taken. I don't remember exactly but I'll look it up. Rabbi Twerski relates how he wanted to take a picture of the Steipler, but the Steipler didn't want him to. So he related this story and the Steipler allowed Rabbi Twerski to take the picture.
Thanks! Looks like an interesting book to get.
Also, it has a haskama from your favorite Degel Machaneh Ephraim from Sudilkov!
-Dixie Yid
It can't be the Degel himself - take a look at the date - תקצ"ב
