Secrets: a follow-up question

I appreciated all your comments yesterday and have a follow-up question for you.

How does one resolve the apparent contradiction between the two teachings below, and how are these teachings applicable to our anonymous blogging activities?

Do all things in a hidden manner, so that people should not be aware of your piety. (Baal Shem Tov)

If we find we have to conceal something and keep it secret, it means we are doing something wrong. (Kotzker Rebbe)

I don't have an answer. That is why I am asking.

I think it's the difference between deeds that are so good that you are being modest about them, because your humility prevents you from bragging, and those deeds that you do and feel so guilty about having done them that you intentionally hide them from the world. The latter leads to deception, fraud, lying, cheating, you name it. The former just leads to more modest piety.

Just the two cents of a simple Jewess.
