Bragging about tzedakah
Under no circumstances should a person glorify himself with the charity he gives. And if he does glorify himself with it, not only does he forfeit all of the reward for the mitzvah, but he will even be punished for his bragging.

I guess that means no more plaques with people's names on them in shuls, Federation buildings, and other Jewish organizations LOL.
We are trying to raise money for our shul and that is just what I told the rabbi to do. Get people to donate money and put their names on plaques. People love to see their names. They love recognition.
I also like a thank you when I do something for someone. But I have the opposite problem sometimes. Once in awhile I buy a toy or leave money anonymously at my kids' preschool. I don't tell anyone I left something. I just put it on the director's desk. Well, she always calls to thank me and then she puts a note in the weekly newsletter thanking me. I'm trying so hard NOT to get recognition. But she says I'm the only person that does things like that, so she knows it's me.
Tzedakah is something that I feel very strongly about. I am always interested in helping and I really do agree with the proscription against recognition. It makes a lot of sense.
I think the only time I have ever impressed my daughter is when she saw me write a check to a meshulach.
