ASJ, I've been studying this photo of the Degel's matzeveh, and it appears to me that there is a cloth covering over the stone (there seem to be draped folds in the lower part, below the inscription), but it might be an optical illusion. Do you recall whether this matzeveh has a protective cloth covering?

Shoshana: To the best of my memory there was not a protective cloth.
