Rephael Eisenberg is one of the finest "true artists" in the Orthodox world, and an outstanding and reputable artist in the New York art world in general. His technique is awesome, and his paintings and drawings are emotionally expressive and really have something to say -- far beyond being "Jewish genre paintings" (which they are not; they just sometimes happen to focus on Jewish subjects).
However, like Yaakov Kazemacher, Yitzchak Bloom, and other great artists in our community, he remains a little known figure who struggles to make a living...
Beautiful art. I'm moved. As an artist I'd like to know if Chazzal has any insight of art being a Kiddush Hashem. I'm a BT who happens to be an artist. My depth of knowledge is like a child but sometimes I wonder if I could serve God through my art.
A Simple Jew: I saw him in Boro Park. He is a tall man, and usually wears that kind of cap like on the portrait, and I remember his name is R' Raphael.
I think the eyes in the photo below (which turn out to belong to Chavakuk Elisha) look a lot like those in the painting of the Chassid wearing a shtreimel...

Mark: I encourage you to read Space Cadets postings that are linked on my side bar. He often addresses this topic.
Anonymous: Yes, that is him.
Anonymous: Who is it? I know one of the people as well.

What do you think, ASJ?
Smashed Hat: It is hard to tell. What do you think, Chabakuk Elisha?
