Speaking Hurtful Words

Speaking hurtful words is a greater sin than monetary wrong doing. Heaven exacts retribution for speaking hurtful words. Many transgress this prohibition out of ignorance of its parameters. As a rule, any statement that will cause one's fellow pain is included in this prohibition. One should bear in mind the Sages' teaching, "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your friend."
