The Apter Rebbe's New Year
(Picture courtesy of tan-tar-a.com)In the sefer Ohev Yisroel it is related on New Year's Day that the Apter Rebbe remarked that he knew it was going to be a good year for the Jewish people.
The Rebbe of Husiatyn explained that it is always possible that a kitrug (a Heavenly accusation) remains against the Jewish people following Rosh Hashana. However, when Hashem then witnesses the manner in which the rest of the world observes their new year, He concludes with certainty that the Jewish people are indeed worthy of a good year.

Thank G-d, our Bnei Noach friends celebrate the same Rosh Hashanah that we do, with teshuvah and prayer, not drunkeness and immorality and fake simchah. This is already a "foretaste" of the time when we won't need to make such contrasts as the Husyatener invoked -- "l'avdo shechem echad!"
