Have you tried any of the recipes yet? I find with many ashkenaz oriented cookbooks that I can triple the spice amounts and the dishes still have no flavor, a mystery of ashkenazic cooking!
The above comment reminds me of a business trip I once took with my boss who was from India. We ate at a kosher Chinese restaurant and, being Indian, he tried to order the spiciest dish. Not spicy enough! He kept sending it back for more spice until it was minimally acceptable to him.
my husband brought me this back from America yesterday - it looks great! I can't speak for the spiciness of the receipes as the only thing I have made so far is Oatmeal Chocolate chip cookies - which virtually disappeared as i took them out of the oven. The presentaion is lovely and the quotes are very meaningful.
